BUTTA WEDDING BRIDAL BASKET ENTRY

The pellis butta wedding entry is one of the highlights of the Telugu wedding celebrations, you know that. The bride and the groom are representations of the Goddess Lakshmi and the Lord Vishnu.

The butta or the bamboo baskets are highly decorated and sometimes may not look anything like bamboo baskets at all. It could look like a colourful lotus or whatever the imagination limits them to. The bride gets to choose the basket or the pelli butta that will carry her. It could be a designer basket, with the colours matching the brides attire or in contrast to the colour of her dress.

The pelli butta is usually carried by the maternal uncles, amongst great fanfare, announcing the arrival of the bride on to the mandapam.

The traditional buttas were plain bamboo baskets, decorated with marigolds or the flowers available for the season. As time passed, it began to change too, with colourful cloth coverings and decorations not just limiting to florals. The shapes also began to change, the shape, size and quality in the weddings of today are more or less directly proportional to the wedding budget.

String of beads, cloth tassels, silk borders, fancy jewellery are some of the decorations for the pelli butta that are used generally. Here are a few shots from our collection.
